How many of you remember Funny Face drink mix? It was a rival to Kool-Aid in the 60's and early 70's. I don't know why it didn't do better, because as you can see, it definitely had cooler characters. Pictured here is Goofy Grape, Rootin' Tootin' Raspberry, Jolly Olly Orange, Freckle-Face Strawberry, Loudmouth Lime, Choo-Choo Cherry and fellow southpaw Lefty Lemon. This record was a mail-in premium from Funny Face. It features Goofy Grape and his friends singing fun little songs about themselves and (of course) the wonders of drinking Funny Face drinks. The characters are all voiced by one of the hardest working voice artists in the business, Paul Frees. I think you guys will really enjoy this one!
(Oh, here's another bit of trivia for you: Jolly Olly and Choo-Choo actually were replacements for the less politically correct Injun Orange and Chinese Cherry!)
Here's the track list:
- Howdee - Goofy Grape
- My Whistle - Choo-Choo Cherry
- Hello! Hello! Hello! - Loudmouth Lime
- A Cowboy Named Fauntleroy - Rootin' Tootin' Raspberry
- Playground - Goofy Grape and the Funny Face Chorus
- I Got 51 Freckles - Freckle-Face Strawberry
- Why I Left Baseball - Lefty Lemon
- Laugh, Laugh, Laugh - Jolly Olly Orange
- Funny Face Drinking Song - The Funny Face Chorus

By the way, that link includes the songs, the front and back cover of the record, and the inside sleeve which includes lyrics!
Now I've piqued your interest so much, I'm sure you want to know even more about these guys. Well, here's a link to the book "How the Funny Face Characters Got Their Names", yet another Funny Face premium. Now my copy is missing the cover (I had to find a picture of the cover online), as well as the first and last page, but you get all the nifty stories here! Hope you like it!
Here's a picture of the book itself:

(And yes, I know that page 59 came out weird for some reason. You can still tell what's going on, and I'm more concerned about getting something new on here. As soon as I get a chance, I'll redo that page.)

My brother and I loved Funny Face drinks when we were kids. We had most of the plastic cups and drank out of them all the time.

Seems to me Pillsbury also had something called "Moo Juice" with an animated spokes-cow voiced by Frank "Crazy Guggenheim" Fontane.
(Don't know if I spelled any of the above correctly!)
Can't wait to get ahold of this!
Of course, cherry and orange were originally "Chinese Cherry" and "Injun Orange".
Hi Tony!
I remember drinking Funny Face drink mixes as a kid. Just looking at the cover brings back an automatic response!
And I wanted to say how sorry I am about the recent deletions (especially since I missed out on a lot of them!....I'm still kicking myself), but I guess if they were legitimate (and not just some disgruntled collector), then I guess it's a question of grin and bear it. :)
And I never seem to have enough time to drop by and tell you what a fantastic blog this is (but you're probably tired of hearing it by now). Now with 'These Records Are Bent' gone, it's good to know you're still here!
And you asked about 'Toy Parade' on my blog a while back. I think it was recorded, but I could never find a copy when I was making up my TV theme compilation. That was one of the ones I would've liked to have put on.
And thanks for the heads up about the 'Dennis the Menace' vocal version. I think it must be on the album you put on here, but I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet.
Keep up the great work and beware of singing grapes! :)
Grapes don't sing, they whine.
Sorry 'bout that one...
Hey! Kat Oddio told everybody about this at Luxuria. Nobody could believe it. Thanks. I still want that Funny Faces pitcher!
