I'm sure a lot of you are too young to remember this, but it used to be a big deal if a TV show was broadcast in color. In fact, if you catch reruns of some early television shows they'll even make a special point of mentioning this. The announcer will say something like, "The Big Valley...IN COLOR!" I guess it's the same deal now when shows are broadcast in HD or Widescreen.
Anyway, "Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color" was the first (and only) show I remember that even made a point of mentioning it in the show's title! This album from 1963 features songs from a number of the episodes featured on the show performed by Annette Funicello, Jiminy Cricket, Hayley Mills, and others. If an artist isn't listed next to the song there's not a credit for them on the record. And as a little pre-Halloween treat we also have that great theme song from "The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh". Everybody now, "Scare-CROOOOOOWWWW!"
Here's the track list:
- The Wonderful World of Color - The Wellingtons
- The Ballad of Davy Crockett - Fess Parker
- Mister Piano Man - Annette
- Pollyanna Song - Hayley Mills
- Casey Jr.
- Sammy the Way-Out Seal
- From All of Us to All of You - Jiminy Cricket
- Bella Bella Florence - Annette
- Farewell - Fess Parker
- America the Beautiful - Hayley Mills
- Hector, the Stowaway Pup
- Scarecrow - The Wellingtons
- The Wonderful World of Color - The Wellingtons
Thanks for posting this, but unfortunately the second best song of the album didn't make the file. Mr. Piano Man by Annette is missing. Best song was Davy Crockett. What was with Haley Mills singing America the Beautiful? That music wasn't in the Sammy the Way-Out Seal episode. Even the theme to the show was a different recording. Kids must have been bummed out by this album. But it was in COLOR. (on NBC)
ReplyDeleteActually it turns out that Mister Piano Man is on there. It turns out that Track 2 is Davy Crockett and THEN Mister Piano Man! I'll get it fixed and reload it. Until then, you'll find Mister Piano Man after Davy on Track 2. Thanks for letting me know about it. (And one of these times I'm going to learn to count my tracks!!)

I love Bella Bella Florence, is that from a tv show?
ReplyDeleteAccording to the site www.annettefunicello.net/7inch.htm
ReplyDeleteit's from Annette's TV movie "Escapade in Florence" (featured on Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color).

IIRC, the Hayley Mills cut of America the Beautiful was from the movie Pollyanna. Which, of course, was shown on Wonderful World of Color.
ReplyDeleteI was tickled to hear the "Scarecrow" song! I loved that song, and haven't heard it in decades. But as Don K. said, the version of the theme song on the album isn't the one I'm familiar with, and I am disappointed -- I was looking forward to hearing the peppier version from my childhood viewings of the show again.
Wow what a great find- I love these old Disney movies!
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this. I owned this album as a child and have looked for the track list and songs. I am very excited to download and listen to them again!~ Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I've been wanting the Hayley Mills tracks forever. I'd have them had I had DVD-ripping capabilities at the time I rented the DVD of Pollyanna ages ago. Not to mention I'm a Disney nut.
ReplyDeleteblorpik, the box.net link works, as that's what I'm downloading now. I checked the rapidshare link earlier and it works too. :)
I bought this album just the other day and was about to convert it to mp3, and I decided to search for it just for fun. Voila, here it is, thanks for the download! Saved me some time!
ReplyDeleteI was so tickled to find this album here! I just watched Pollyanna, and was hoping to find Hayley Mills' America! This whole album is wonderful! I would love to see more Disney stuff, but I know you skirt copyright trouble that way. Thanks!
