Washington Is for the Birds

Considering Election Day is Tuesday, I thought I'd throw a few political albums on here for you. But this being Way Out Junk, you can count on it not getting too deep. This album from 1966 features the voices of then President Lyndon Johnson, his wife Lady Bird, Vice President Hubert Humphrey, and a number of other political figures of the day. The catch here is that their voices are set to music. We're not talking about stirring patriotic music behind inspirational speeches. No, we've got sound bites that are somehow made into songs. It's terribly silly, but would you expect anything less from me?

Here's the track list:
  1. Lady
  2. The Humphrey-Johnson Tap Routine
  3. Good Evening, Welcome Neighbors
  4. Return to Proven Ways (The Rev. B.M. Goldwater)
  5. The Immortal Words of L.B.J.
  6. It's Pain to Train a Texas from the Plain
  7. Be Forthright, Bobby Kennedy
  8. You Don't Have Nixon to Kick Around Anymore
  9. Lynda and Luci Lullaby
  10. The Wedding

UPDATE: I'm afraid I've been forced to remove my link, but you can buy the record album from Amazon by clicking on the link below!

  1. OK,
Great blog and a lot of good work . .

    But where is David Fry's
    "Richard Nixon, Super Star"?
You have some rare political satire here, but this is Fry's greatest work. Surly you have this in your dustbin?! (and don;t call me Sheryl)

  2. Thanks! Here's Billboards review of this LP from July 1966:

This comedy (comments set to music) album is already causing a fantastic stir strictly from word of mouth created by radio airplay. Best cut is "It's Pain To Train A Texan From The Plain" based on the "My Fair Lady" tune. This LP is going to be a tremendous profit-maker in the "First Family" tradition.
