Once again, here's one of those albums that takes children's classic songs from a number of sources and puts them together on one record. And you've got to give them credit; there's almost 45 minutes worth of stuff here so you're getting lots of value for your dollar (or however much this record cost when it was new).
But to be honest, my favorite part of this whole album is the cover. Some little girl (or is it a boy?) playing with an old school Mr. Potato Head, back when you had to supply your own potato! And he/she just finished working on Mr. Pepper Head before that! Pretty cool!
Anyway enjoy the album (and the cover)!

My father has had heart failure and is in the hospital. We are trying to keep him alert and interested, and one idea we have is getting him to sing along on songs that he used to sing to us when we were little. One of those is the version of Little Red Riding hood that was on a little red record. We are betting that it's the same one as on this album. Could you please print the lyrics? Thank you so much.

Jane and Judy,
ReplyDeleteHere's how the song starts:
Little Red Riding Hood
Was hurrying through the wood.
The Wolf said, "Hello" and she answered him
Though Mother said she never never should.
"Where are you going?" said he.
"To Grandmother's house," said she.
"For Grandma's sick and I'm taking her these goodies that you see."
Does that sound like the one you're looking for?
Tony
Tony, thanks so much for your reply. We've been busy with daddy moving from hospital to rehab to hospital again and back to rehab, and in the midst of all that I had lost the url for your page! But I just relocated it, and read your reply.
ReplyDeleteI am afraid that this might not be the same song, although I don't remember how the intro went. What I can remember is something like this: Little Red Riding Hood, walking along with a friendly smile, happily through the wood, wearing a cloak that is quite the style.
Does something like that come later in your song?
Jane (and Judy)
Tony, I turned my house upside down and found the piece of paper where I had written down the lyrics that daddy could remember. Here they are - I don't know if they will match your record or not. He used to sing this to me, but he learned it from a little red record that I owned. This was around 1950.
ReplyDeleteLITTLE RED RIDING HOOD
Little Red Riding Hood,
Going along with a friendly smile, Merrily through the wood
Dressed in a cape that is quite the style.
'Tho' the day is dreary,
She keeps tripping along,
Never sad or teary,
Always singing a song.
Little babe in the wood,
What do you have in your basket sweet?
Everything that is good,
Food that is fit for a king to eat?
I wish I were a wolf
Or even dear old grandma
For I love goody
Little Miss Hoody
Little Red Riding Hood.
Thanks again!
Jane
