Hey, it's my first Christmas album for the blog! I don't have a whole lot of Christmas albums that aren't either still in print or available elsewhere, so I'm going to have to spread them out a bit.
This is a pretty neat album from 1975. Side 1 is Zero Mostel reading "How the Grinch Stole Christmas". Mostel starts out pretty calm, but after a while he just goes nuts! I think this is the first Grinch I've heard that just sounds out-and-out insane!! Side 2 is a number of Christmas songs from around the world (sung in English) by a man named Alan Mills. I don't know him, but he has a definite Burl Ives-ish quality about him. I hope you guys like this!
Here's the track list:
- How the Grinch Stole Christmas
- Bring a Torch (French)
- The Friendly Beasts (English)
- Mary Had a Baby (American)
- Come and Sing (Russian)
- Gently the Maiden (Polish)
- Fum-Fum-Fum (Spanish)
- The Simple Birth (Netherlands)
- Haidom-Haidom (Czechoslovakian)
- O Christmas Tree (German)
- The Bagpiper's Carol (Italian)
- St. Basil (Greek)
- Little Bitty Baby (American)
- Twelve Days of Christmas (Anglo-American)

Man, this is awesome. Thanks for sharing it!
ReplyDeleteI had this album as a child! My mother asked me to look for Caroleer Singers Christmas albums online, and I decided to look for this one. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteany chance you can post the back cover of this?
ReplyDeleteAlan Mills was a longtime Canadian folk singer, known for collecting traditional Canadian tunes.
ReplyDeleteI still have this album (since childhood) and the book to go with it. I love it! The songs on the Grinch side are different from the ones in the movie, and I have fond memories of the folk songs on the other side. Don't currently have a record player to play it on, but I think it's still in pretty good shape. I any case, I'm trying to download it from you. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteTony, thank you for posting the files to this great albumn. We have been looking for this to give to our grandkids. We have the original albumn but it is all scratched. Thanks again. This is great! Gregg & Anna
ReplyDeleteJust reviewed this album at the yuleblog! Thanks for posting it eons ago!

oh man... this takes me back. My Grandma bought me this book/LP combo for my 7th Christmas. This version matches the book exactly (as a read along). And now I can share it with my 3 sons. thank you.
ReplyDeleteThis looks really wonderful. Could you doublecheck that it is still available at the download sites. I haven't been able to get it. Would love to have it for my English students before Christmas! Thanks!
