Having Fun with Elvis on Stage

In 1991 a book came out called "The Worst Rock and Roll Records of All Time". Their criteria was that "the artist must have at least passively condoned the project, and the work must be done by a 'major' artist". So with all there was to choose from, how could this 1974 Elvis Presley concert album have possibly attained the top spot? Surely a live Elvis concert would have some great performances of songs made famous by the King of Rock and Roll himself, wouldn't it? But let your eyes travel to the top right corner of the album cover with me, and notice four simple words that made all the difference. (I blew up the picture in that area if you couldn't read it.)

Yes, this is an actual Elvis live concert album WITHOUT THE SONGS!! This has got to be heard to be believed! Elvis Presley was a great charismatic performer, but he wasn't so good on the between-song patter (and remember, that's all there IS here)! And one last thing: the management will not be responsible for injuries caused by jaws dropping and heads shaking in confusion after listening to this album.

you have to remember that this was an official RCA release at one time so its a bit cleaned up.

being a big big elvis fan, i have many bootlegs which reveal just how truly whacked out of his gourd elvis actually was...

This album was a project of Elvis' manager, Col. Parker, and not that of any great record producer. The Colonel started his own record company just to do this album. I think it represents Col. Parker's greed for making money and the way he exploited his client, Elvis, in order do just that. Since there were NO writer/producer/etc royalties to be paid, this was pure PROFIT. I'm sure that Elvis gave this project a nod, because the Col asked him to, but I wonder if Elvis really knew what it was, since it was all Col. Parker's doing. It's kind of a great collector's item and interesting now, but I wonder what people thought about it when it came out. There are some really cool things on it like Elvis explaining how he got started out in the business. That wasn't on any other album at the time, and information was really hard to get. We are already starting to take the flow of information for granted in this age of information. And! I am sure that die hard fans would have loved it. They wanted anything and EVERYTHING Elvis. They got that here. Anyway, if you can get a copy of it. listen and enjoy. (I'm listening to it as I type this...)
