This seemed like the ideal album to start my New Album Week. This has a bunch of songs that were supposed to have been featured on Romper Room and Ding Dong School. I never saw Ding Dong School (I think that was a little before my time), but I vaguely remember Romper Room. I only song I recognized from that was the Do-Bee Song, but you might know some of the others from that as well. There's a couple of classical instrumentals on here as well. I know that wouldn't have done much for me (it's not peppy enough), but it might have floated your boat. Anyway, hope you like it, and let's hope that New Album Week goes off without a hitch!
Here's the track list:
- Ding Dong School
- London Bridge
- Will You Come and Play With Me
- Clapping and Stamping
- See Me Jump
- Tippy-Tip Toe
- Hop Up Hop Down
- Scuffy the Tugboat
- Polly Wolly Doodle
- Children's Marching Song
- Swiss Dance
- Mr. Shortsleeves
- The Do-Bee Song
- Dance of the Swans
- Tawny Scrawny Lion
- Did You Ever See a Lassie
- Marching to My Drum
- Halls of Montezuma
- To a Wild Rose
- Hansel and Gretel
- Brahms' Lullaby

Most, if not all, children's records labels were cheapy labels, such as Golden and Peter Pan, wnich specialized in low-budget recreations of songs rather than originals.
I think Golden might have been linked to Somerset Records and to DL Mueller in some way.
It's funny. When I was a kid I got some old records from a friend of the family and one of them was a Romper Room album. It had most of these songs on it and also had a woman narrating. These are the exact same recordings that were on that album of mine, I mean, same vocal group and backing musicians and everything. I bet this stuff was recycled over any number of albums on whatever label this was on, too.
